Renee ABOUEM - President and Founder

Premedical student - Bachelor in Biological and Medical  Sciences.

Growing up in Cameroon, I witnessed a landscape where access to health resources was a luxury, not a right. Friends often approached me, seeking medical advice, but I had to rely on my parents for answers, highlighting a troubling gap in healthcare knowledge. I remember the weight of their uncertainty, the shame that kept them from reaching out to professionals, and the fear that left many girls seeking help from acquaintances instead.

A particularly discouraging experience with a doctor made me realize how crucial it is for women to feel valued and understood in medical spaces. It struck me that this fear of judgment was not just an individual struggle but a collective barrier affecting the health of entire communities. I became passionate about transforming this narrative, believing that every woman deserves to know her reproductive rights and access compassionate care.

This drive led to the creation of AWHWI—a platform dedicated to educating and empowering marginalized populations to seek the care they deserve, free from stigma and shame. Together, we can change the conversation around women’s health and create a future where every woman has the resources and support she needs to thrive.

Karen EKIYABE

Project Manager

I am a passionate advocate for the empowerment of marginalized populations in Africa. At 24 years old, I have had the privilege of blending my cultural heritage and modern expertise to make a meaningful impact. I grew up in Cameroon in a lively house with my three brothers, where I learned the importance of community, resilience, and education. This upbringing instilled in me a deep commitment to social justice and equality, motivating me to seek ways to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Now residing in France, I work as a Data Project Manager at an investment bank. In this role, I harness the power of data to drive impactful projects, blending analytical skills with a passion for innovation. This professional experience has given me a keen eye for detail and a strategic mindset, both of which are invaluable in my advocacy work. As an active member of AWHWI, I am dedicated to empowering adolescents and marginalized communities by promoting education on vital topics such as sex education, leadership, mental health, and health literacy.

My involvement underscores a commitment to ensuring accessibility, availability, acceptability, accountability, and non-discrimination in health and well-being initiatives. Through AWHWI, I strive to create a future where every individual, regardless of their background, has the knowledge and resources to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. I believe that education and empowerment are the cornerstones of a just and equitable society.

Rubis MANGON

Administrative Affairs

My name is Rubis, and I am currently on track to become a physiotherapy tech, with the ultimate goal of becoming a physiotherapist. In addition to my studies, I work as a small business representative for Toronto Dominion Bank. My role involves assisting small business owners with managing their assets and liabilities, answering their questions, and guiding them on how to simplify their banking processes.

I joined this organization because its mission is to educate African populations about their health, guide them on different ways to manage their well-being, and provide necessary resources for assistance.

My passion for healthcare stems from spending a lot of time in hospitals as a child, as both of my parents work in the medical field. Watching them tirelessly help those in need, raise awareness, and give their all even in challenging conditions has deeply inspired me. I hope to bring the same energy and dedication to this association because its mission truly resonates with me.

Katendi SAKULANDA

Public Relations Officer

I am a proud Zambian who has grown up in the United States, deeply involved in the healthcare field. In eighth grade, I was diagnosed with anemia and underwent a blood transfusion. This experience heightened my interest in healthcare, as I was greatly comforted by the care I received.

When sharing my experience with others, I noticed how often the healthcare system poses significant challenges and inconveniences to many. This realization motivated me to strive for change. Our foundation is dedicated to providing patients with compassionate and accessible healthcare experiences. I have encountered numerous individuals who cannot afford health insurance or who suffer from bad credit due to unpaid medical bills.

Our goal is to connect patients in need of medical attention with the proper resources, helping them understand their options for treatment. Growing up in a family of medical professionals has shown me how inaccessible basic healthcare can be, even in a first-world country. Giving back to Zambia means the world to me, as it allows us to provide better healthcare options to both women and men in need.
